| dc.description.abstract | Apartir de uma impressionante e sensível pesquisa, Tânia Vasconcelos nos revela um sertão da Bahia marcado pelos impasses provocados pela modernidade, pelas dificuldades de aplicação da Justiça, pelas reconstruções das hierarquias sociais, raciais e de gênero em um período de profundas transformações na região nas décadas de 1940 e 1950. Entre juízes, promotores, jornalistas, mães, pais, patrões, trabalhadoras, acusados e ofendidas, passamos a conhecer as concepções e vivências amorosas, afetivas e sexuais de mulheres pobres, suas famílias e suas redes de sociabilidade. Ao longo deste livro, mesmo que enredadas nas teias dos valores dominantes da virgindade e limitadas a suas difíceis condições de vida, são reveladas pela autora mulheres corajosas e audaciosas, que lutam por suas paixões e desafiam as imagens de passividade e da perdição moral, costumeiramente associadas a mulheres simplesmente por serem pobres, negras ou sertanejas. | dc.description.abstract2 | Through impressive and sensitive research, Tânia Vasconcelos reveals a Bahian sertão marked by impasses caused by modernity, difficulties in applying Justice, and the reconstruction of social, racial, and gender hierarchies during a period of profound transformations in the region in the 1940s and 1950s. Among judges, prosecutors, journalists, mothers, fathers, employers, workers, the accused, and the offended, we come to understand the loving, affective, and sexual conceptions and experiences of poor women, their families, and their social networks. Throughout this book, even when entangled in the webs of dominant values of virginity and limited by their difficult living conditions, the author reveals courageous and audacious women who fight for their passions and defy the images of passivity and moral damnation often associated with women simply for being poor, Black, or from the sertão. Ultimately, we are entirely convinced of the protagonism of these women in constructing their stories of passion, desire, and rebellion. I invite the reader to proceed. In such difficult and conflictual times regarding a supposed moral crisis, directly linked to the discussion of sexual and gender roles, there is nothing better than to follow a book where one can perceive the movement of history. The changes and struggles, many of them victorious, for the defense of sexual, loving, racial, and gender diversity cannot be forgotten.
