| dc.description.abstract | O primeiro volume da obra intitulada Populações litorâneas e ribeirinhas na América Latina: estudos interdisciplinares apresenta um conjunto de ensaios produzidos por pesquisadores especialistas de diferentes áreas de conhecimento, pertencentes a diversos países da América Latina. Todos esses especialistas concentram as suas atenções nas histórias de populações que residem há bastante tempo nas regiões litorâneas e ribeirinhas na América Latina. Os ensaios, aqui reunidos, têm como foco central a análise dos impactos dramáticos que as políticas de estado, assim como da iniciativa privada, vêm provocando aos ambientes marinhos e aos rios, resultando em transformações significativas na relação homem/meio ambiente e em mudanças radicais em sua cultura e formas de viver e lidar com a natureza. Como pesquisadores envolvidos e comprometidos, de alguma forma, política e academicamente com os povos litorâneos e ribeirinhos, os estudos, aqui publicados, são resultados de pesquisas inéditas de cada pesquisador em suas respectivas nações. Como resultado, esse livro revela a perspectiva interdisciplinar e a articulação de um grupo de pesquisadores que vem conectando os temas de seus estudos para tornar mais inteligível a história das populações litorâneas e ribeirinhas da América Latina e assim, quem sabe, contribuir na criação de melhores perspectivas de futuro para o meio ambiente desse continente tão rico em sua fauna e flora. | pt_BR |
| dc.description.abstract2 | The first volume of the work titled "Coastal and Riverine Populations in Latin America: Interdisciplinary Studies" presents a collection of essays produced by expert researchers from different fields of knowledge, belonging to various Latin American countries. All these specialists focus their attention on the histories of populations who have long resided in the coastal and riverine regions of Latin America. The essays gathered here primarily analyze the dramatic impacts that state policies, as well as private initiatives, have had on marine environments and rivers. These impacts have resulted in significant transformations in the human-environment relationship and radical changes in their culture and ways of living and dealing with nature. As researchers somehow politically and academically involved and committed to coastal and riverine peoples, the studies published here are the results of original research by each scholar in their respective nations. Consequently, this book reveals the interdisciplinary perspective and the collaboration of a group of researchers who are connecting their study themes to make the history of Latin America's coastal and riverine populations more intelligible, and thus, perhaps, contribute to creating better future prospects for the environment of this continent, so rich in its fauna and flora.
