dc.description.abstractEsta pesquisa tem como objeto de estudo a história do Ginásio Dom Justino Russolillo, instituição de ensino privado criada, no final do ano de 1964, no município de Palmas de Monte Alto-BA. Busca contribuir com a conservação da memória institucional escolar, requisito importante para a reflexão sobre as práticas educativas do passado e do presente. A instituição funcionou entre os anos de 1965 e 1980, quando ofertou o Curso Ginasial e o Curso Normal de 2º Grau com a formação em magistério. A propósito disso, atentamo-nos aos debates que determinaram o processo de criação do Ginásio, à origem social dos alunos e ao que a cultura escolar, representada pelas fontes, nos permite conhecer sobre: ensino e aprendizagens, a relação entre escola e seus atores, escola e comunidade, e a conjuntura social, política e econômica que a envolvia. O presente estudo orienta-se pela metodologia da Nova História Cultural, que contempla as práticas sociais e culturais de realidades específicas, em conexões com o contexto da época. Apoiados nesse parâmetro historiográfico, interpretamos as fontes documentais em papel pertencentes ao arquivo do ginásio, fontes verbais e a estrutura física da escola, para conhecermos também as relações de poder e a relação entre educação pública e educação privada de ensino. Nesse sentido, analisamos a arquitetura do primeiro prédio, emprestado pela prefeitura para o funcionamento provisório do ginásio, no período de 1965 a 1970, bem como a arquitetura do Colégio Dom Justino Russolillo que funcionou em prédio próprio a partir de 1970. Além disso, discutimos as práticas educativas, a formação de professores, as tendências de ensino, os eventos festivos e a relação entre as memórias da Instituição e os seus respectivos espaços, tanto interno como externo. Entendemos que o Dom Justino Russolillo demarca o início da educação secundária no município, por isso é importante a preservação da sua memória para melhor conhecer a história da educação local e discutir aspectos da história da educação brasileira. Embora tenha assumido um importante papel, ao ofertar esse modelo educativo à comunidade de Palmas de Monte Alto, nem por isso pode ser concebido como um colégio que atendeu as demandas do município quanto a essa etapa de ensino, pois não era para todos, mas restrito às famílias que podiam pagar pelo estudo ou que recebiam bolsas da administração municipal ou do próprio ginásio. Nesse ensejo, refletimos sobre a negação das condições básicas de cidadania pelo poder público, sobretudo devido à falta de acesso ao ensino público secundário. A despeito disso, reconhecemos o interesse da sociedade monte-altense, a partir do movimento de crianças, jovens, adolescentes e adultos, no campo e na cidade, pela busca da educação escolar, inclusive em colégios públicos de cidades vizinhas.
dc.description.abstract2This research paper is a study of the history o the “Ginásio Dom Justino Russolillo”, a private teaching school which began at the end of 1964 in the municipality of Palmas de Monte Alto, Bahia. It aims to contribute to the conservation of the memory of an educational institute which is important to a reflection about past and present educational practice. The institute functioned between the years 1965 and 1980 when it offered a gymnasial course and a normal High School course in teaching. In view of this we will look at the discussions that were part of its creation, the social origin of its students and the school culture which are contained in the sources and permit us know something about the teaching and learning at the school, the relationship between the school and its members, the school and the community, and the context social in which it was situated be they social, political and economic. The present study is orientated by methodology of the New Cultural History which contemplates social and cultural practices in specific realities within the context of its time. Supported by this historiographic parameter we will interpret the written documentary sources belonging to the gymnasium archive, the verbal sources and the physical structure of the school to know its historical context, its power relationships and the relationship between public and private education. At the same time we will analize the architecture of the first school building which was lent by the municipality as a temporary home between 1965 and 1979 and the architecture of the “Colégio Dom Justino Russolillo” which functioned in its own building from 1970 onwards. Furthermore, we will discuss educational practices, the formation of teachers, tendencies in teaching, festive events and the connection between memories of institution and its use of spaces, both internally and externally, We understand that the “Ginásio Dom Justino Russolillo” begins the period of secondary education in the Municipality and for this reason it is important to preserve the memory this institute for better know the history of local education and to discuss aspects of the history of Brazilian education in general. Although it took on the important role of offering a secondary education to the community of Palmas de Monte Alto it cannot be understood as a school that offered a secondary education for the municipality at this level of education because it wasn’t open to all but restricted to families who could pay for the studies or those who gained scholarships from the municipal administration or the school itself. In the light of this we will reflect the denial of basic conditions of citizenship due to the failure of access to a public secondary education. In spite of this we recognize the interest of the local population from the movement of children, young people, adolescents and adults of the countryside and the city in search for an education, including in public schools from neighboring cities.
