dc.description.abstractA presente pesquisa apresenta resultados de o estudo realizado sobre a polissemia do verbo brocar no município de Valente, no interior da Bahia. O objetivo geral desta monografia foi investigar os sentidos do verbo brocar dentro da comunidade linguística de Valente-BA, o modo como os jovens valentenses utilizam o verbo, em seus sentidos mais distintos. E os objetivos específicos: a) estudar a polissemia do verbo brocar, a partir do que pensam os estudantes inqueridos, tomando por base princípios da Linguística Cognitiva, considerando os pressupostos da Teoria da Metáfora e Metonímia Conceptuais e da Teoria do Protótipo; b) verificar que tipos de conceptualização estão na base da polissemia do verbo brocar; por fim, c) verificar as variações e mudanças que ocorrem. Os pressupostos teórico-metodológicos que nortearam esta pesquisa foram os da Linguística Cognitiva, mais especificamente, da Teoria da Metáfora e Metonímia Conceptual e Esquemas de Imagem. Os estudos que se desenvolvem na esfera da cognição são naturalmente heterogêneos, enfocando a interdisciplinaridade; em vista disso, para a análise interpretativa do corpus resultante da aplicação de questionários semânticos-lexicais, estabeleceu-se um diálogo entre a Linguística Cognitiva, e outras áreas do conhecimento, como a das Ciências Biológicas, além da base teórica da Teoria dos Fractais. Desta maneira, por meio da observação da polissemia do verbo brocar, no corpus selecionado, discutiu-se sobre os mapeamentos metafóricos e metonímicos, assim como os esquemas de imagens que estruturam esses mapeamentos. Como estratégia metodológica, lançou-se mão de uma abordagem qualitativa de caráter descritivo-interpretativo e exploratório, pautada no paradigma da introspecção. No corpus selecionado, encontramos diferentes sentidos do verbo brocar; por esta razão, os resultados foram organizados a partir dos domínios da experiência instanciados destes sentidos, tais como: FÍSICO-ESPACIAL, ATO SEXUAL, SUCESSO, LUTA CORPORAL e da ALIMENTAÇÃO, que mostraram que existem diferentes formas para conceptualizar o verbo brocar na fala de jovens da comunidade linguística de Valente-Ba. As expressões linguísticas instanciaram as metáforas BROCAR É FAZER FURO EM OBJETOS OU COISA, BROCAR É DESVIRGINIZAR, BROCAR É PARA CIMA/PARA DENTRO e BROCAR É GOLPEAR estruturadas pelos esquemas-I FORÇA, TRAJETÓRIA, BLOQUEIO, EXCESSO e outros.
dc.description.abstract2The present research presents results of the study carried out on the polysemy of the verb brocar in the municipality of Valente, in the State of Bahia. Its main objective was to investigate the meanings of the verb brocar within the linguistic community of Valente-BA, the way in which young people from Valente use the verb in its most distinct senses. And the specific objectives: a) to look into the polysemy of the verb brocar based on the surveyed students’ perception and thoughts, under the principles of Cognitive Linguistics, considering the assumptions of the Conceptual Metaphor and Metonymy Theory and the Prototype Theory; b) verify which types of conceptualizations are at the base of the polysemy of the verb brocar; finally, c) verify possible variations and changes of the meaning of the verb. The theoretical-methodological assumptions that guided this research were those of Cognitive Linguistics, more specifically: Conceptual Metaphor and Metonymy Theory and Image Schemas. The studies that are developed in the field of cognition are naturally heterogeneous, focusing on interdisciplinarity; in view of this, for the interpretative analysis of the corpus, a result from the semantic-lexical questionnaires applied, a dialogue was established between Cognitive Linguistics and other areas of knowledge, such as Biological Sciences, in addition to the theoretical basis of Fractal Theory. Thus, through the observation of the polysemy of the verb brocar in the collected data, this research discusses the metaphorical and metonymic mappings, as well as the image schemes that structure these mappings. From its methodological strategy, this research has a qualitative approach with a descriptive-interpretative and exploratory nature, and it is based on the paradigm of introspection. In the selected corpus, different meanings of the verb brocar were found; for this reason, the results were organized according to the domains of experience that are instantiated in the meanings, such as: PHYSICAL-SPATIAL DOMAIN, DOMAIN OF SEXUAL ACT, DOMAIN OF SUCCESS, DOMAIN OF BODY STRUGGLE and DOMAIN OF FOOD, which showed that there are different ways to conceptualize the verb brocar in the speech of young people from the linguistic community of Valente-Ba. The linguistic expressions instantiated the metaphors BROCAR É FAZER FURO EM OBJETOS OU COISA, BROCAR É DESVIRGINIZAR, BROCAR É PARA CIMA/PARA DENTRO and BROCAR É GOLPEAR, structured by the image schemas STRENGTH, TRAJECTORY, BLOCKAGE, EXCESS and others.
