dc.description.abstract2OBJECTIVE: To evaluate association between 10m Gait Speed Test (GST) performance and 6-minute walk test (6MWT) performance in COPD individuals. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The crosssectional descriptive study in COPD individuals of both sexes assisted in a pneumology ambulatory in a well-referenced hospital Salvador-Bahia. The evaluation was composed by functional tests (GST and 6MWT) and by instruments to evaluate clinical variations of respiratory symptoms (CAT survey and Medical Research Council dyspnea scale). The data were analyzed in SPSS and the Pearson´s correlation coefficient was applied with statistical significance considering p < 0.05. RESULTS: The sample was composed by 44 individuals, being 56.8% the masculine sex, with an average age of 67.1 ± 9.2 years old. The average gait speed values were 1.30±0.26m/s for GST1, 1.34±0.28m/s for GST2, and 1.36±0.29m/s for GST3 and all individuals evaluated showed good performance. Average walk distance in 6MWT equaled 398.1±87.4m. There was an association between performance in GST1, GST2, and GST3 and in 6MWT, considering: r = - 0.663; r – 0.691; and r = - 0.681 respectively (p = 0.0001). CONCLUSION: The results obtained by the present study suggest that GST and 6MWT present positive association among each other and that alongside other tests already used, GST can be a valuable instrument in measuring functional capacity.
